The Different Types of Mediums: Which One Are You?
Mediumship isn’t one-size-fits-all.
There isn’t just one way to connect with spirit.
And your Ability doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be real.
In truth, there are many different types of mediums—each with a unique way of receiving, channeling, and translating messages from the spirit world. Some connect through vision, others through feeling. Some receive names and symbols. Others speak aloud, write, or simply know.
Every medium is a bridge between the seen and unseen—but how that bridge is built is deeply personal.
In this blog, we’ll explore the most common types of mediums so you can begin to understand your own intuitive design—and embrace it with confidence.
1. Mental Mediums
These mediums receive messages from spirit mentally, often through clairvoyance (seeing), clairaudience (hearing), or claircognizance (knowing).
They may:
Hear words, names, or full sentences from spirit
See mental images or “snapshots”
Get instant, clear downloads that feel like divine thoughts
Relay information as it’s being mentally translated in real time
Most modern mediums fall under this category—especially those who give live readings or intuitive messages.
You may be a mental medium if:
You receive spirit insight in your mind’s eye, often feel “spoken to” in your thoughts, or translate symbols and impressions quickly during readings.
2. Physical Mediums
Physical mediums channel spirit through their bodies or physical environment. In some cases, spirit can influence objects around them or produce phenomena.
They may experience:
Spirit manipulating lights, electronics, or sounds
Unexplainable temperature changes
Automatic writing or physical sensations
Trance states or partial embodiment (trance mediumship)
This type is rarer, and often requires a lot of preparation and protection due to its intensity.
You may be a physical medium if:
You often experience spirit energy around your space (e.g., flickering lights, knocks), feel spirit move through your body, or experience deep trance-like states.
3. Trance Mediums
These mediums enter an altered state of consciousness to allow spirit to speak through them more directly. In a trance, their mind relaxes and spirit is able to communicate with more intensity or fluency.
They may:
Speak aloud in a different tone or style
Transmit messages as if spirit is temporarily “borrowing” their voice
Forget parts of the session afterward
Feel immense peace or energy shifts after coming back
You may be a trance medium if:
You slip easily into meditative states and feel your consciousness shift when connecting to spirit. You may feel like your voice or body carries something “otherworldly” during readings or transmissions.
4. Healing Mediums
Healing mediums may not always bring through verbal messages—but they channel spirit’s energy to support emotional, spiritual, or even physical healing.
They may:
Channel angelic or soul family energy for healing sessions
Feel their hands or body become warm or tingly during readings
Help release grief, trauma, or soul tension
Hold space for spirit to bring in light and closure
You may be a healing medium if:
People feel better just being around you. Your sessions bring emotional release. You often feel spirits supporting your energy healing, bodywork, or even therapeutic work.
5. Writing or Artistic Mediums
These mediums connect to spirit through creative expression—especially automatic writing, poetry, drawing, or even singing and dance.
They may:
Feel spirit flow through their hands while writing
Create art that carries divine codes or messages
Receive visions, songs, or movements guided by spirit
Channel teachings, books, or collective messages through art
You may be a creative or writing medium if:
You feel most connected when your body or hands are in motion, and messages come through clearer when you’re in a creative or meditative state.
So… Which One Are You?
You might resonate with one type—or a blend of several.
Mediumship is fluid. It evolves as you grow. And it doesn’t have to fit into one box.
The most important thing is to honor the way you receive.
Trust how spirit flows through you.
Your style is your strength.
Don’t compare. Don’t doubt.
You were designed to be a bridge—exactly as you are.
Your Mediumship Is Sacred
No matter how you connect—through words, energy, images, presence, or silence—your mediumship is a gift. And when you use it with love, protection, and spiritual integrity, it becomes a source of healing for this world and the next.
You don’t need to be like anyone else.
You just need to show up, open up, and allow spirit to speak in the way only you can hear.
